The newest youth basketball league in the Austin area is Redefining the STANDARD OF ATHLETICS! S.O.A.
is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that believes in offering organized athletics in a quality,comprehensive, competitive,
and family friendly environment. Redefining the STANDARD OF ATHLETICS is the league for you! Below are our league rules.




  • Maximum of 10 players per team
  • Junior ball (27.5 in.)
  • Goal height is 8.5ft
  • No lane violations
  • Only two timeouts allowed per half
  • Free throw is 8ft from basket. Player may land over line
  • Players will be rotated equally during first 2 quarters. Coach’s decision for 2nd half
  • Game length 4-8 minute quarters
  • Stealing is only allowed inside the paint
  • Time will be running clock except for time outs and the last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter. Clock will stop for all technical fouls.
  • Players foul out on the 5th foul
  • No shooting of 1 and 1
  • No stalling or isolation plays. 5 seconds to begin to advance ball past the half court line. 1st isolation violation is a warning, 2nd is an unsporting direct tech foul charged to head coach.
  • Zone defense allowed. Double team is allowed in the paint ONLY.
  • No reaching allowed. Must guard with arms up.
  • No back court defense allowed.
  • Defense must back up to the half court line.
  • Illegal defense and back-out defense, 1st violation is a warning, 2nd is an admin. 1 shot technical foul and possession of the ball
  • One coach from each team allowed on the court during the game to instruct the players

 

  • Maximum of 10 players per team
  • Half Court Press

  • Goal height is 10 feet for 8UA and 8.5 feet for 8UB
  • No lane violations
  • Only two timeouts allowed per half
  • Free throws are allowed from free throw line or 8ft from the basket. Player may land over the line(8UA)

  • Substitutions only at the 10 minute mark in the 1st half. Open substitution in the 2nd half. Players must play in both halves. If a player is substituted for within the 10 minute time, player cannot return to the game unless an injury occurs.
  • Game length 2-20 minutes halves.
  • Time will be running clock except for time outs and the last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter. Clock will stop for all technical fouls.
  • Players foul out on the 5th foul
  • Teams will shoot 1 and 1 at the 7th team foul per half, 2 free throws at the 10th team fouls per half
  • No stalling. 5 seconds to begin to advance ball past half court line.
  • Man to man, Zone defense or full court press is allowed (Exception: 10UB, no back court defense)
  • 10UB Only: Illegal defense and back-out defense, 1st violation is a warning, 2nd is an admin. 1 shot technical foul and possession of the ball
  • No restrictions on guarding in the legal defense area.
  • Only two coaches allowed on the bench with players. One must be seated at all times. If the head coach is assessed a direct or indirect tech foul he must remain seated for the game

  • Official size ball (29.5)
  • Goal height is 10ft.
  • Three second lane violation.
  • Only two timeouts allowed per half
  • Free throw is from 15ft from basket. Players may not land over line.
  • All players must play in the 1st and 2nd half.
  • Open substitution throughout the game.
  • Game length 2-20 minute halves.
  • Time will be running clock except for time outs and the last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter. Clock will stop for all technical fouls.
  • Players foul out on the 5th foul.
  • Teams will shoot 1 and 1 at the 7th team foul per half, 2 free throws at the 10th team foul per half.
  • No stalling. Use “Closely Guarded”

  • All Games are full court.
  • All games are 5 on 5. 6U ay start a game with 4 on 4.
  • Each game will start with a jump ball.
  • Possession will alternate each quarter/half, jump ball or double foul.
  • Teams will take free throws positions as normal block allows.
  • Half time is a maximum of 3 minutes.
  • Two time outs per half, no carryovers. 30 second each.
  • Home team is listed first on schedule.
  • League jersey must be worn for all games unless approved by a league official. Violation will result in one technical foul charged directly to the head coach when player wears an illegal jersey. Team must wear matching shorts, not provided, for all games. Game management may enforce this rule at any time during the game if not previously assessed by game officials.
  • Regulation scoring with three pointers on courts marked.
  • Coaches must verify team score sheet before each game.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct will result in a technical foul and possession of ball.
  • A 3 minute overtime period with a running clock, except for timeouts, will be played in a case of a tie. One timeout per coach during this period. If a game is not won during the overtime period, a 3 minute sudden death will be played. First team to score wins.
  • Game time is forfeit time, no grace period allowed. Any team that forfeits two or more games during the season may not b eligible for tournament play.
  • Undershirts may be worn. All team members must wear same color undershirts or none. No cut off sleeves allowed.
  • Cloth wristbands may be worn. Only a single item may be worn on each wrist, and it must be worn below the elbow and not on the legs.
  • Compression sleeves are not allowed on the arms or legs, unless with a written prescription from physician is verified.
  • Mercy rule will implemented when a team leads by more than 20 points in the 2nd half.
  • Mercy rule – Score keeping clock will be turned OFF when a team has a 20 point or more lead over its opponent.
  • If a team starts to comeback within 15 points and 2 minutes left in the game, teams will evaluated by SOA Directors to turn score keeping back on. These requirements are a must in all mercy rule evaluations.
If mercy rule is implemented, score keeping will only continue at the time keeping table.

 


  • I will place the emotional and physical well being of my plaers ahead of my personal desire to win.
  • I will treat each player as an individual and expect age appropriate skills from all my players.
  • I will be knowledgeable in the rules of each sport that I coach and will teach the rules to my players.
  • I will attend and be on time for all practices and games, and if I am not able to be there, will ensure that someone else is available to coach my team.
  • I will review the Player’s Code of Conduct with my players and encourage them to abide by it.
  • I will do my best to provide a sage playing environment for my players.
  • I will lead by example in demonstrating fair play, a positive attitude, and good sportsmanship to all my players on and off the field.
  • I will be available to my players and parents to address any concerns that arise.
  • I will respect the decisions of referees, coaches, and SOA Staff.
  • I will treat all players, coaches, fans, and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed, or ability and expect the same in return.
  • I will remember that I am a youth sports coach and that the game is for children, not adults.
  • I will adhere to the Coach’s Code of Conduct while representing SOA at all practices, games, and events.

 


  • I (and my guests) will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, and officials at every game, practice or other SOA event.
  • I (and my guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting, refusing to shake hands, arguing calls or coaching decisions, or using profane language or gestures.
  • I will place the emotional and physical well being of my child ahead of my personal desire to win.
  • I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participant for making a mistake of losing a competition.
  • I will insist that my child play in a safe and healthy environment.
  • I will require that my child’s coach be trained in the responsibilities of being a SOA coach and that the coach upholds the Coach’s Code of Conduct.
  • I will support coaches and officials working with my child, in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
  • I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco and alcohol and will refrain from their use at all SOA events.
  • I will remember that the game is for youth - NOT adults.
  • I will do my very best to make youth sports fun for my child.
  • I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches, fans and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed or ability, and expect the same in return.
  • I will help my child enjoy the SOA experience by doing whatever I can, such as being a respectful fan, assisting with coaching, or providing transportation.

 


  • I will be a good sport at all times.
  • I will try to be at all the practices and games.
  • I will learn the rules and play by them.
  • I will listen to my coaches and parents.
  • I will be nice to everyone.
  • I will do my best in school.
  • I will remember that I am part of a team.
  • I will remember that it is fun to win, but it’s okay to lose too.

  • I will respect the decisions of my coaches, parents, and referees.
  • I will encourage my parents to be involved with my team.
  • I understand that it is a privilege to play sports, not a right.
  • I will do my best in school and remember that school comes first.
  • I will remember that I am part of a team.
  • I will remember that winning is fun, but it isn’t everything.
  • I will have fun.
